Details of Zafar Iqbal’s health condition will be revealed at 11:00am on Sunday following a health check-up, he added.

Police meanwhile arrested Fazlur Rahman, maternal uncle of Zafar Iqbal’s attacker Foyzul.

Jalalabad police station officer in-charge (OC) Shafiqur Rahman said police conducted a drive at the house of Foyzul after Saturday midnight.

Police broke open the locked house and arrested Fazlur Rahman hiding in the house.

He was then taken to the police station for interrogation, OC said.

On Saturday, renowned writer and educationist Zafar Iqbal sustained head injuries as a young man stabbed him with a knife during a prize-giving ceremony of the university, said assistant proctor Jahid Hasan.

Witness students said Zafar Iqbal was enjoying the programme on the stage and all of a sudden a young man swooped on him and stabbed him.

Zafar Iqbal was then rushed to Osmani Medical College Hospital from where he was then brought to Dhaka CMH on Saturday night.

Immediately after the attack, the students caught the attacker, Foyzul, and gave him a mass beating. Police then nabbed the attacker immediately after the attack but he is not responding to any questions.
