Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued at least 41 people including women, children and Indian nationals while they were being trafficked from India to Bangladesh through Putkhali Border on Tuesday morning.

Lt Col Tarikul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion, said acting on a tip-off, a team of border force conducted a drive at the area and rescued 21 women, 15 men and 5 children while they were illegally entered to Bangladeshi territory.

The most of victims were hailing from Narail, Faridpur and Khulna district.

One of the victims Rahima Khatun said a gang of traffickers brought them to Putkhali border from India’s Bongaon area.

However, the traffickers managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the BGB men.

Later, they were handed over to Beanpole Police Station.

A case was filed with the police station, the CO added.
