Members of Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 10 gold bars, weighing 1.5 kg, from a mango orchard in Putkhali village of Benapole in Jessore on Friday.

Tipped off, a team of BGB-21 conducted a raid in the area and recovered the gold bars worth Tk five million in an abandoned condition, said BGB-21 battalion commanding officer lieutenant colonel Tariqul Hakim.

The BGB men however could not held any one as the ‘smugglers’ managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the border guard members.

The seized gold bars were deposited to Benapole Custom House after a case was filed in this regard.
