PM to be apprised of quota system after scrutiny

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to submit a report to her after scrunity of the existing quota system in public service.

Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Adhikar Sankrakkhan Parishad leaders and activists stage demonstration in Shahbag intersection demanding reform in existing quota system in public services.

She issued such an order at the the cabinet meeting on Monday as protests by students and jobseekers demanding reform in quota system escalated across the country since Sunday.

Cabinet secretary Md Shafiul Alam briefed newsmen about the government’s latest stance on the quota system after the meeting.

The government has brought certain reforms in the system by taking a decision to fill in posts of different government jobs that would remain vacant for not getting eligible candidates from the quota, by the candidates drawn from the merit lists.

UNB reports, the public administration ministry will scrutinise the existing quota system and inform the prime minister about its current state, said the cabinet secretary.

“No decision was taken at the meeting on the quota system in public service but it must be scrutinised,” Shafiul Alam said.
